DRM-free Nora Jones song on eMusic and Yahoo!

It seems like lately, every time Universal Music does something boneheaded, EMI does something right. Grammy winning artist Nora Jones now has a completely unencumbered Mp3 available through Yahoo! and eMusic, in a move that puts her and her label EMI at the forefront of major label experiments. Along for the ride with Nora is Relient K, a Christian Rock group.

It's made quite a splash too. Both PC World and the Associated Press have covered the release, giving Nora a nice PR boost which could help sell more records. Yahoo spokeswoman Carrie Davis told the AP, "They're still looking at it as an experiment but the labels have really come a long way in terms of wanting to see how this works for them."

EMI recently made Lily Allen their first drm-free test case in the UK only. Is EMI showing a real commitment to a DRM free world?
