Aussie band The Grates have already made it to household name status in their home country, but the rest of the world still remains unconquered; Not for long by the sound of it. The Grates are poppy, punky and just a little bit angry. Your standard life writes, "NME, Spin, Filter and Rolling Stone have all touted The Grates as a band to watch," adding, "two girls and a guy who make high-energy fun-pop-punk."
You can download their current single, "Science Is Golden" for free at your standard life. Compare to The Muffs, The Amps, or other energetic female led pop-punk with total flavor. Just the thing for Thanksgiving travel, enjoy!

1. I saw The Grates earlier this year and they were very, very fun. Unlike a lot of people, I think their album is fantastic. Different than the live experience, but great in its own right.
They're a fun band. Nobody sees them and doesn't smile. There were a lot of great reports from SXSW. Here's a link to some Brooklyn Vegan pics:

I'm not sure how much of a "band to watch" then are. Interscope needs to put in a lot more elbow grease in the States for them to break. Not much going on thus far. It's tough, I understand that. How to break this kind of band...Gwen Stefani they ain't. Blogs only go so far. Interscope doesn't aim for blog hits. It aims for monster hits.
