IFPI accused of playing tough with Brazilian legal scholars

When members of the IFPI in Brazil announced their latest lawsuit barrage, suing 8,000 people worldwide for alleged copyright violation through file-sharing, they did so via press conferences, ensuring that the IFPI gained the biggest media bang for it's lawsuit buck.

But a few legal scholars from that country, a hotbed of the copyleft movement, weren't allowed to play in any reindeer games. From Boing Boing, "The delegation of scholars and activists from the Center for Technology and Society had been accredited to attend, but when they arrived, they were not permitted in the room. Organizers claimed the room was full, but press representatives in the room say that there was plenty of room. IFPI wouldn't even give the professors copies of the press-release, saying they'd run out of them."

Brazil is currently considering legislation that would change its copyright law for the benefit of the recording industry.
