Hipster sensation The Shins are trying something interesting at the upcoming Austin City Limits Festival; Asking fans to record the live show with mobile phones or digital cameras.
The band is asking that the resulting fan footage be sent to them for editing. The result? A concert from potentially hundreds of angles. The band will be performing new songs from their forthcoming album 'Wincing The Night Away'
A similar idea was carried out by the Beastie Boys in 2005, and more recently by Coldplay, however both bands issued cameras to a limited number of fans leading to a more controlled environment. The Shins' experiment is the first example I'm aware of that asks fans to use whatever they have on hand.
