I've been saying for a while that I'm not bullish on the convergence of mobile phone and mp3 player. Call me a purist, or tell me my pockets are too full, but I'm just not that excited about the combination of the mobile and mp3 devices. Camera-phones made sense, but I don't think music-phones do.A survey out yesterday seems to back me up, if only for early adopters. Three thousand mobile users quizzed on their preferences by Entertainment Media Research said that for the most part, they weren't about to go nuts downloading music to their mobiles any time soon.
"A quarter of people are interested in mobile downloads, but under 5% said they were "very likely" to start mobile downloading, while a whopping 44% said that they were very unlikely to do so."
And just 11% of users are actively paying for music downloads to their phones, a number that maps to half of those responding to a similar survey last year in which 22% of users said they were very interested in mobile OTA downloads.
