Exclusive: Rock Band Unplugged Track List

Is Sony ripping-off artists on ringtone sales, too?

The class-action lawsuit against Sony for unpaid royalties on digital downloads has just gotten a little more interesting.

We've reported before on the suit, with lead plantiffs Cheap Trick and The Alman Brothers, and we've even used the numbers released in the press to calculate the losses of some artists due to sketchy record deals, but this week brings word that Dr. Elmo is joining the class action over unpaid ringtone royalties for his seasonal comedy hit, "Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer".

According to the AP story, "Ringtones - small sections of popular songs that play when a person's phone rings - have been netting the performers about 8.3 cents apiece, out of the $1 to $1.50 that Sony Music gets from each sale. The musicians say they should get 50 to 75 cents."

A lawyer for Sony declined to immediately comment on the suit.
