Radiohead eyeing exclusive digital strategy
"To keep things more fun and spontaneous, we will be playing new songs that are work in progress," the group said. "We will also be releasing music to download when we are excited about it, rather than wait twelve months for a full blown album release."
Here's more from frontman Thom Yorke, posting on the band's blog, Dead Air Space, from Radiohead.com:
"... i think we ve always worked best when we arent bothered
about making mistakes.
theres a lot of baggage about the old way of doing things that is hard to get over...
all the 'album' crap..just this level of pressure that is ridiculous..
we're just going to do what feels right at the time
quite intothe idea of singles at the moment(that dont get on the radio)"

3. I see they've been wathcing the BBC and New York Philharmic's idea of a digital-only releases. From the BBC, I understand why they are doing this, they re a radio station and as such they already do this kind of music release. As well the releases of the Beetoven set was in conjunction with Radio programs which were intersting and informative. A kind of radio CD jacket.
The New York Philharmonic's experiment is doomed to failure I fear. There is no radio broadcast, unless you were at the concert where they were recorded.
Radiohead, get a brain! There is absolutely nothing like giving the pbulic sonething visual to catch their eye. Otherwise you're just "that song I heard on the radio"
I worked in Music retail for years and you have no idea how many times I heard this: "I heard this song on the radio.. but I didn't hear the name, can you tell me what it is?" Eeveyone can see how ludicrous that request is and the custome does to in the end. You need more information and that's exactly what all that "extra" stuff provides. Information. We, your public need it!

4. What is the name of the song that iPOD+iTunes uses on their commercial? It's a fast, song...something about sitting in a cubicle. I love it!

7. That is the only way for the future...
Many indie artists are doing it exactly the same way.
Prince is making a lot of digital distribution too...
Good Luck
