It's easy to find articles about Starbucks's adventures in the music business. This one, in the Wall Street Journal (no reg), contains a few interesting facts. Because Starbucks doesn't return unsold CDs, it sometimes pays up the three dollars off wholesale price for its inventory. After getting it cheap, Starbucks often prices the disc higher than list, as with Beck's "Guero" CD, which was priced two dollars higher in Starbucks than in other stores. Even so, Starbucks can account for 20-50 percent of an album's sales.
