It's called CrimsonBay, and the catalog contains about 40,000 pop and movie soundtrack songs from India. The model is clearly post-iTMS, but in an interesting twist CrimsonBay lowers the track price from 99 cents to 69 cents if users pay with Crimson Cash—an online credit system that avoids credit card merchant fees and passes savings to the customer.

(Page 1)2. Good collection of music at Crimsonbay, but unfortunately the music purchased here is in WMA format. It can't be played in my iPod! :(
I recently bought an iPod and was hoping to fill it up with Indian music. Too bad the folks at crimsonbay just lost out on a lot of potential business from me (and lots of other people too I'm sure)! Why would anyone build a business around selling music in a format that doesn't work on the most popular digital music player around?! Beats me.

This song has got 'hit single' written all over it and will appeal to all the rock music lovers from India and Pakistan.
A brief bio of Shaman:
Shaman was formed in December 2004 after four like minded souls with diverse tastes in music got together to infuse some fresh life in the stale music scene in India. Jamming on some incredibly catchy tunes and musical ideas, the band developed a distinct sound of their own. We have composed a song about the tragic consequences of the floods of ?Terrible Tuesday? that occurred on the 26th of July in Bombay and which threw life in the commercial capital of India out of gear. The band also decided to use that song ?Patharon ke is sheher mein? (City of stones) as a backdrop for a music video that would depict the aftermath of Terrible Tuesday?.
The song with it?s haunting melody and poignant lyrics forms a stark combination coupled with the empathetic images of the music video.? The video for the song was shot immediately in the aftermath of the downpourof ?Terrible Tuesday? and depicts the singer Atin making a documentary and interviewing kids and people who were affected with the floods. After visiting a few of the affected areas in Mumbai where hundreds of people lost their lives and interviewing the hapless survivors many of whom have lost everything and not in the least their kith and kin was a humbling experience and reflected the resilience of human beings in the aftermath of a calamity.

1. I recently visited Crimsonbay (http://www.crimsonbay.com) to download Hindi music - specifically for bollywood music and Hindustani classical music. Their selection of oldies is great - I guess the site is still in Beta thats why the newer music selection is a bit limited. The CrimsonCash model is great - its always good to get music lesser than 99c! But, I wonder if the recent news about music companies raising prices will affect this store. In any case, I do recommend it for any Indian music aficianado. Music is available as WMA , it would be great if they could also offer hindi music MP3 songs as well - but then I'm wishing for too much!
