A new, purportedly legal, file-sharing application has launched. Called Grouper, and free for the time being, the program allows users to form groups up to 30 members, and provides a drag-and-drop environment for sharing all types of media files. Streaming and downloading of music files are supported. The design is beautiful, and much thought has gone into uability features. Grouper takes Yahoo! Groups to the next evolutionary level. Bravo.

1. Grouper has released Version 1.3 (as of 1/25/05) which has improved social networking support and fixed problems with streaming and upstream bandwidth during file uploads to other group members. The client now includes a "mini email" application for sending text messages to members.
