Starbucks Music Execs on Decaf

Once charging full-steam into the music business, Starbucks has significantly slowed its plan to roll out CD-burning kiosks in its stores. The first was introduced in Santa Monica last April, and the company promised full implementation throughout the chain within two years. Now, a less jittery plan calls for a 10-store test in Seattle this fall, and a similar project in Austin soon after. From there, time will tell.

"Don MacCannon, Starbucks vice president of music and entertainment, said managers have grappled with the design challenges of presenting CD burners in Starbucks coffeehouses in a way that's eye-catching and accessible without intruding on the cafes' ambiance."
