A member of dmusic.com has posted what appears to be a letter from Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, to Cary Sherman, President of the RIAA. The poster claims to have received the letter from an unidentified third party. Authentic or not, the letter makes good reading. It is a slashing rebuttal of the RIAA's supposedly hostile stance on digital recording of radio broadcasts. The RIAA has unabashedly expressed its wish for a "broadcast flag" built into digital radio devices—tantamount to a "buy button" that users would have to use before recording radio content.
